IN his 1992 film, Strictly Ballroom, Baz Luhrmann took the figure of the rebellious teenage dancer, traditionally to be found at the disco or the Prom, and transferred him to the seemingly more sedate but, in fact, far more cutthroat world of competitive ballroom dancing, in which the director himself grew up.
