PHILIP Venables opera 4.48 Psychosis, performed at the Lyric, Hammersmith by the Royal Opera House is, on the one hand, the most unremittingly depressing piece of theatre I have ever seen; on the other hand, however, it is an extraordinarily vibrant and unusual work.
