APOPHIS, the God of Chaos asteroid, would make atmospheric entry with 1200 megatons of kinetic energy, a thousand times greater than the Tunguska impact, Krakatoa or the Tsar Bomba hydrogen bomb, but minuscule in comparison to one devastating impact from the Earth’s past.
