A new opera in a new opera house is always an intriguing prospect, but The Monstrous Child at the Linbury has a strong tradition behind it. The opera itself, written by Francesca Simon and composed by Gavin Higgins, has its roots in Norse mythology, and the Linbury is the rebuilt, and upgraded version of the old, rather ramshackle theatre in the bowels of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
