Engelbert Humperdinck may for many people be the name of the aging pop singer who represented Britain without much success in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, but the man whose name he borrowed was a German composer of several operas of which by far the best known is Hansel and Gretel based on the story by the brothers Grimm.
