Two months after visiting Brian Friel’s fictional village of Ballybeg in the National Theatre’s production of Translation’s, we return to it in the Donmar’s production of Friel’s Aristocrats. This time, however, we leap forward from the mid 1830s to the late 1970s and several rungs up the social ladder from the hedge school to the “big house”.
