SINCE its premiere, four years ago, The Winter’s Tale has earned a prodigious reputation. First, and most vital of all, the audience loves it. A great deal of this essential box office quality is in dance-maker Christopher Wheeldon’s construction, which he bases on the “classical” formula found in stories such as Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty.
