THERE are no second acts in American lives, according to F Scott Fitzgerald. James Goldman and Stephen Sondheim seek to prove him wrong, at least for one night, in Follies, when a group of ageing showgirls return to the theatre where they last performed 30 years earlier to confront both their old friends and younger selves.
